Hello Henk,

You asked me to tell something about G13 draughts. It is sad, but there are this year really no strong players in this category in Ukraine. This includes that there are no strong girls (G13) in our town or in Kharkov (the town of Mazur). Alina Galyaga, ex-champion, and a really strong player, now play in G16.

The championship of Ukraine (draughts-100), Chernigov , 23-30 of March 2004.

The results of G13, only 8 players, 7 rounds:

In our country (as in Russia an other ex-USSR countries) draughts-64 (Russian draughts) is very popular.

Not long ago Denis Shkatula took 3-4 place in Vinnitsa region Championship on draughts-100 (between men).

1. Dmitriy Marinenko (national master)
2. Nick Stepanyuck (national master)

It is a big success for young Denis

Vladislav Mazur in actie op het RABO jeugdtoernooi 2003, tijdens deel 2, in Delft.

And now the hot news:

Tomorrow in Evpatoriya (Crimea region, Ukraine) will start Youth World Championship.

(Categories G13, G16, G19, B13, B16, B19) on draughts-64 (Russian version).

Shatula and Mazur are best representatives Ukraine.

Players from many countries will take part in WC. I will inform you about results.

I hope I answered on your questions!
Greetings, Nick Stepanyuck

Hello, Henk!

I have some interesting news. There is a new draughts young top player in our town Vinnitsa. His name is Denis Shkatula. He was born in 1992. He plays in category minicadets B13. He demonstrates good level of training and he sees a tactical combination wonderfully. In February 2004 in Dniepropetrovsk Denis Shkatula took second place in Youth Championship of Ukraine on draughts-64 (following Vladislav Mazur) And he wins a tournament in quick game. Recently in Chernigov in the next principal game with Mazur, Denis realized a perfect combination, but he couldn't win the game.

Alexander Saponenko is now playing in category B16. So Vladislav and Denis are really leaders in Ukraine in category B13. Denis played in some adult tournaments and implemented a norm of sports master candidate. Shkatula's coach is famous youth trainer Dmitry Marinenko, from Vinnitsa. He trained Ukrainian champions such as MI Ivan Antonenko, Oleg Chernyak, Artyom Ivanov and other strong players. Maybe Denis Shkatula will be the next champion! He is a brilliant talent. Good luck with your activity's.
